Favorite Sons Win in Manorhaven Election
The two new trustees elected last week in the Village of Manorhaven, Tom Garofalo and Matt Meyran have much in common. They're contemporaries; Garofalo is 42 and Meyran is 39. Both are lifelong residents of Manorhaven and have deep family roots in the village. Interestingly, both men had not been regular attendees of village meetings either. However, they won last week's village election, though they ran for different parties. Garofalo, who garnered 607 votes, was a New Justice Party candidate; and Meyran, who received 588 votes, ran on the PIC Party ticket.

School Budget Passes on Revote 3483 to 2364
In one of the largest voter turnouts in recent history, 5,847 to be exact, Port Washington voters passed a resubmitted $70.9 million 1999-2000 school budget in a vote of 3,483 to 2,364. It was the same budget that was defeated on May 18, in an 1,890 to 1,543 vote.

How to Do Good for PYA and Save Taxes at the Same Time
As word spreads concerning the plans of the Port Washington Youth Association ("PYA") to renovate Lions Field, members of the community have expressed their desire to help. Individuals and businesses have already made cash contributions. Some have expressed a willingness to donate their services. Others have asked whether there is any tax advantage in donating shares of stock rather than making a cash contribution.
