    As many people know, Nichole Garofalo, who comes from a very well-known and popular Port family, will be marrying lifelong Port resident and PWPD's School Resource Officer Tony Guzzello this coming Friday. But before she walked down the aisle, she wanted to do something very special for her father. She sent us the following entry and told us that nominating him for father of the year would be one special way to express her love and admiration for him.   • NEWS: Threat of School Violence Keeps Many Students Away

    June 8 had all the characteristics of an average school day: students had homework to submit, teachers had lessons to cover, administrators had programs to run. But because of a threat of school violence on June 8, which was delivered in the form of graffiti on a Schreiber High School bathroom wall and a classroom desk, it was a day in which many students cautiously stayed home to avoid any possible harm. Though the attendance rates were far lower than on an average day, June 8 passed peacefully, without incident. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: County Championship Three-peat for Vikings Boys Volleyball!

    The Vikings Boys Volleyball team saved their best for the last match of the season as they convincingly beat West Hempstead 15-11, 15-2, 16-14 to capture their third straight county championship. For a team that often went to five game matches during the season (20-1), including the heart-stopping semi-final match against Syosset that got them to the finals, this was a short but sweet affair.     On Saturday, June 12, your reporter thoroughly enjoyed The Manhasset Bay Sportsman's Club 50th Blessing of the Fleet. She especially enjoyed chats with Jon Kaiman, commissioner of Public Safety, and Supervisor May Newburger, neither of whom she had met before. Seventy boats were reported of which about 10 were sailboats. The most "unique" boat seemed to be the one dubbed "pontoon boat." Other details are omitted because of coverage by others. FULL STORY
