Approval of Long-Term Conceptual Plan Postponed
"We're all depressed," said School Board President Robert Scheer, as he informed the audience that the board had to postpone voting on the resolution to approve the conceptual long-term facilities plan. The reason for the delay, Mr. Scheer said, is that the feasibility studies commissioned indicated that further information concerning the possibility of providing water and sewer services needs to be obtained on the two sites being considered for construction of the new 1,200 student middle school, namely the 41-acres in Port North and the Guggenheim property owned by the school district.

RFAMBPW Files Article 78 Against TONH
The Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington (Residents) have filed an "Article 78" court proceeding against the Town of North Hempstead, challenging the town's site-plan approval of the Harbor Ridge senior housing development. The site plan was approved in July of 1997. At that time, according to officials at the Town, Residents did not challenge the Town Board.

Saturday, April 10 is Port Lacrosse Day
For those of us who happen to enjoy boys high school lacrosse, things are about to get very interesting here in Port Washington. After about three weeks of non-league play. it appears that Port might be fielding their strongest team since the 1995 county championship season. The preseason coaches' poll had the Vikings in second place in Division I, right behind perennial powerhouse Farmingdale.
