Fair to Good Health Report for Salem Center
While recommending that a number of areas need further testing and remediation, Disposal Safety, Inc. and Carpenter Environmental Associates Inc., environmental consultants hired by the PW School District to study the Salem Center's potential for utilization as an elementary school or for other educational purposes, have concluded that it "can be safely reopened as an elementary school after appropriate renovation and cleanup."

Police Commissioners Charged With "Politics as Usual" by PBA Prez
Port Washington's Police Benevolent Association (PBA) President Stephen Cardello accused the current board of commissioners, James Duncan, Robert Persons and Sal Zimbardi, of being politically motivated in their recent actions against Lieutenant Ronald DeMeo whom they demoted from the rank of Detective Lieutenant to Lieutenant and transferred from his position as Commanding Officer of the Detective Division of the PWPD, a position he's held since 1995.

On The Bay
Sunday, March 28 was a perfect sailing day for frostbiters. With winds up to 14-15 knots, gusting to 20, the Race Committee ran 8 races and one crew race. At one point, white caps were seen on the bay. RC members were pleased with their new grill, which is now anchored to the Worry Wart to prevent it from catching the wind and sailing into the bay.

Port Lacrosse
The Port Washington boys varsity lacrosse team played two highly competitive teams in Maryland and Virginia this past weekend. The boys left Port Washington early Friday morning to play a four o'clock game against Dematha High School in Maryland. After Dematha, the team met W.T. Woodson's players and stayed overnight with their families. The trip was excellent for team unity. The Vikings played hard-hitting, aggressive lacrosse and came out victorious.
