After 33 work sessions during the period from September 1997 to the present, countless meetings with officials from each building, parents and community groups, the plane has finally landed for the school district's long-range facilities plan. At a public forum on March 16, the board of education made its presentation of the conceptual plan that's being contemplated. With an estimated price tag of $74 million, many residents are reeling from "sticker shock." On Sunday, March 21, 80 hearty sailors and their crew approached the race course in Manhasset Bay only to be told to return to the dock before the start of the first race, because of high winds that were "fluky" and "all over the place." Once wind conditions improved, the race committee set a no jibe course, and eight sailors and crew completed five races in 10-14 knot winds, with gusts to 21-23 knots. FULL STORY
