On Saturday, Feb. 27, some very important games were played by the third and fourth graders of the Port Washington PAL. These games decided what place each team would end up for the finals.
The first game of the day was ISSG vs. Burger King. This was a very exciting game that ended up with a final score of 18-18. Both teams played extremely well. For ISSG, Nick Pellirito and Jason Nelson played very strong offense, scoring a total of eight points. Paul Janis and Evan Blanchfield played strong defense for their team. For Burger King, James Frocarro and Nicholas Mann played a strong offense for their team. Frocarro scored a total of four points and Mann scored a total of two. They, along with Ben Adler, worked together to keep the offense working on. Nicky Newberger and Frank Miscioscia worked tough on defense preventing ISSG from getting the lead.
Workbench played Port Washington Tennis Academy, with a final score of 12-6, with Workbench coming out ahead. Workbench was led by Sean Balaban and Sean Manzione on offense, scoring a total of nine points. A great defensive game was played by Jonathan Mui and Victor Martinez and terrific off the bench play performed by Matthew Wolfe and Zachary Zuffante. For Port Washington Tennis Academy, on the offensive plays were Michael Lau and Josh Marten scoring a total of six points. Michael Kaplan and Ariel Malekan played good defense for their team. Both teams played very well.
Community Chest played Marine Midland Bank, ending with a score of 30-24 with Community Chest taking the lead. It was a nailbiter of a game with the score flip-flopping back and forth. Sean Desimone and Richard Maiman played very strong offensively, scoring a total of 26 points for their team and Robbie Rubinstein with two points. Jake Grabiner and Steven Goodstein played tough in rebounding, causing their team to come out ahead. For Marine Midland Bank, Jonah Lovens, Alex Caruso, Peter Rizzo and Eric scored a total of 22 points. Will Rizzo and Spencer Irving grabbing the rebounds to stay strong defensively.
The final game of the day was played by Odell Real Estate and Miller, Katz and Rosenblatt. Odell came up with the win. The final score was 18-9. For Rosenblatt, Rich Imperatore, Zachary Ross and Peter Miller never let the offense down. They scored a total of nine points. Dave Rosenblatt, Andrew Seiden, and Larry Baglio were on defense for their team. For Odell Real Estate, Ian Schwartz, Matthew Odell and Michael Zeigelbaum scored 12 points for their team. Shival Kumar and Harrison Zimmer led the defense for their team, keeping their lead over Rosenblatt.
The final games will be played on Saturday, March 6, and will prove to be an exciting day of basketball.
