For the next month, the Port Washington School Board will be deciding how our school system will look for perhaps the next 30 years. The schools population will increase to levels not seen in 20 years. We have based our projection on live birth data. Meaning the children live in Port Washington right now. No guess work.
We must enlarge the high school, build a new middle school, totally renovate plus add a major addition to Daly and upgrade all of our other facilities including Salem. All of this must be done. It's not a matter of build and maybe they will come. They will be here and very soon. The district must start this process this year. We can not wait or else in September 2001 portable classrooms will be all over town. They are expensive and a waste of your money.
The cost will be high but we have no choice. You can help by coming to a school board meeting and letting us know what you think should be done. You would be surprised how few speak up. Please come or write to me c/o Port Washington School Board, Campus Drive, Port Washington, NY 11050. I guarantee every board member and senior administrator will receive your mail. If you want to have a say in your town's future then you must speak up. Hope to see you at a meeting. Every Tuesday, except Presidents week, until the final decision at the end of March. This is very important to every parent, grandparent and taxpayer. Please come and help plan Port's future.
