The St. Peter's 7th Grade Boys Basektball defeated rival 65-45 and lifted their CYO record to 3-0. The victory enabled them to continue to hold onto first place.

The St. Peter's squad came out blazing and opened up a 15--6 first quarter lead. Brian Alas pumped in six points while Brian Moran and Danny Kane added five points themselves. Chris Cosolito made his first start of the season at the point and was effective in starting the transition offense. The most important aspect of the game was controlling the boards which St. Peter just dominated. Ben Ryan, Ira James and Fred Dumpson played outstanding defense as they recorded five blocks and came up with 10 boards. Once St. Mary's could not come inside they had to rely on their outside shooting.

During the second quarter, Michael Furino and Jamal Reid provided a defensive spark as they caused several turnovers. Ira James and Fred Dumpson hustled down court and converted on fast break opportunities while Chris Cosolito muscled in six of his game high 17 points. St. Peter's opened up a 33-15 halftime lead and never looked back.

Tommy Mangenelli was able to pull down three second half rebounds while Jamal Reid hit a 12-foot jumpers and Matt Levering converted a 15 foot jump shot to pace the squad. Mike Furnio was able to establish his outside game. Brian Alas turned in a solid game with six assists.

This year's squad has all the weaspons to make a serious run in their conference. The team has the rebounding with Dumpson, James, Ryan, Kane and Manganelli, it has the strength of Cosolito, it has the shooting with Alas and most and "incredible" quickness with Furino, Moran, Reid and Levering.

The next game is Saturday (Dec. 19) at 6 p.m. versus St. Agnes of Rockville Center (at home).
