The Boys Under 13 soccer team competed in the Peter Ranzulli Labor Day Tournament in Dix Hills after the long summer break. The Port Washington Raptors, who had a good spring season, entered the tournament without any summer practices due to camp and vacation schedules. The boys were excited to be competing again together and begin the fall season. Having swept the first four games with scores of 2-0, 4-0, 2-1 and 5-0 it was clear that the team was playing at its best. Offenders (Matt Levering, Tommy Scheitzer, Roberto Perez) kept up the pressure and took many shots on goal, midfielders (Anthony Matinalu, Alfred D'Agostino Uri Nazryan, Kenny Seligson and Matt Geiger) kept the ball in play, and defenders (Adam Davis, David Silverstein, David Schriber, Josh Farhadian, JM Kostallas and Emilio Diaz) only allowed one goal to pass their line. Goalie, Milan Petkovic performed at his best and blocked many good tries kicked by the opposing team.
The Raptors qualified for the finals and played the Commack Coyotes for the first place on Monday morning. Despite the early start to all their games and the long weekend of competition, the boys kept up their spirits and were ready to fight for the trophy. The first goal occurred within one minute of play, scored by Uri Nazryan; within minutes, Matt Levering popped in the second goal. The next two goals were scored by Commack tying the score just before half time. Coaches, Yossi Nazyran, Al D'Agostino and Jim Levering provided encouraging words during half time break. The team went onto the field and took immediate command. Matt Levering found an open opportunity and scored his second goal of the game. Defenders were tough and came together to prevent several passes assisting the incredible efforts of goalie Milan Petkovic. Three more goals were scored, two by Roberto Perez and the final goal by Tommy Schweitzer; bringing the final score to 6-2. The boys and their parents were elated. This is a great beginning for the new season!
