Marvin Shapiro, a longtime resident of Port Washington, died on July 4, 1998. at North Shore University Hospital. Marvin taught in the Port Washington public schools for 31 years, retiring in 1985 as science department chairman at Sousa Junior High School. Marvin met his wife, Joyce, who is now an assistant principal at Schreiber High School, in 1954 when both were teachers at Weber Junior High School. They were married in 1955 and established their home in Port Washington at that time. In addition to his wife, Marvin is survived by his son, Joshua, an economist in NYC; his son, David, a project manager in Paulsboro, NJ; his grandson, Peter of NYC; and his brother, Joseph of Delmar, NY. In accordance with Marvin's wishes, no funeral services were held. The family requests that donations be made in remembrance of Marvin to the American Diabetes Association. Agnes Rizzo, formerly of Port Washington, died on July 8, 1998. Wife of Cosmo. Mother of Angela, Theresa, Michael and Marianne. Grandmother of nine. Sister of Frank, Mike and Fanny. Arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Funeral Mass at St. Dominic's Chapel. Interment Calverton National Cemetery. Donations may be made to the National Cancer Care Foundation, 20 Crosseways Park Dr., Woodbury, NY 11797. Robert G. Werst, formerly of Port Washington, died on July 9, 1998. Retired funeral director. Husband of Dorothy (nee Barto). Father of Barbara A. (James) Morrissey, Mary Ellen (Charles) Kerzner, Robert P. Werst and Mark A. (Kim) Werst. Brother of Evelyn Beck. Grandfather of Christina and Erik Morrissey, Samantha and Douglas Kerzner and Adam Alex Werst. Arrangements were made by the Lloyd Funeral Home, Bayside. Religious service at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Flora Hoitt (Quinn), of Rochester, died on July 10, 1998 in Plymouth, MA. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford E. and daughter Marianna (Molly) Ybarra. She is survived by two sons, Clifford (Paula) Hoitt and Christopher (Bonnie ) Hoyt; son-in-law Frank Ybarra; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Louise Grauwiller; and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Nulton Funeral Home, Penfield, NY. Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Contributions may be made to the Al Sigl Center, 1000 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14620. Sam Shore, 92, of Port Washington, died on July 10, 1998. Husband of Jessica. Fatherof Ed Shore and Annabelle Mayers. Father-in-law of Felicia Shore and Dr. Robert A. Meyers. Grandfather of Susan, Linda Terri Nancy, Jessica and Bryan. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Interment private.
