Elizabeth (Betty) Smith died peacefully on April 19 in Burlington, VT. Betty was born in Kilsyth, Scotland on Jan. 22, 1907. She lived for many years in Glen Cove and Locust Valley; in more recent years with her sister Greta Hanson in Port Washington where they were both active members of the Port Washington Senior Citizens Service Center. Betty is survived by her children, Ann Neuer and Fred Smith; grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters; nieces and their extended families; and many friends. A memorial service will be held on May 1 at 7 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior, Franklin Ave., Port Washington. Interment will be private.

William Gagne, 44, of Port Washington, died suddenly on April 19, 1998. Member of the Port Washington Fire Dept. Son of the late Ernest and Esther Gagne. Brother of Barbara Blake and Ginny Tomeo. Uncle of five nieces, one nephew and two grandnieces. Arrangements were made by the Austin F. Knowles Funeral Home, Port Washington. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Port Washington Fire Dept., Fire Medic Company #1.
