(Ed.'s Note: The following was sent to the Town Board of North Hempstead and reprinted here at the writer's request.)
Dear Mrs. Newburger and Members of the Town Board,
I feel obligated to write this letter and to voice my displeasure at the pricing structure for seniors at the new Harbor Links Course. I waited with great anticipation for the opening of our course, now I've come to realize that seniors like myself are getting short-changed.
Senior greens fees of $25 plus $15 for a cart is far too much. Several months ago your representatives were informing us (seniors) that the costs to play golf would be about $30 ($19 for greens fees and $11 for a cart). The scheduled fees are far in excess of what other courses (municipal) are charging. For example - Glen Cove, $6 weekdays, $14 weekends (juniors and seniors); carts are $11 per person. Oyster Bay charges $10 greens fees weekdays to member seniors.
I am aware of the costs involved in building the course and the original cost of the land, but this burden should not be put on the backs of seniors in this town. After all, we have been paying for the land through taxes for many years. Also, the rates for the executive nine hole course appear to be confusing. Is there no senior discount for a resident during the week or will the $15 rate apply to all? I think the seniors in the Town of North Hempstead deserve better. Please reconsider the fee schedule.
