The local K of C Port Washington Council free throw contest was conducted on Jan. 22 at the Sousa Elementary School. First place winners were Ross Fabbi, Brian Alas, Jonathan Shaoulian, Paul Prudente, Larry Zaccherio, Gavina Vigilis, Jaclyn Zaccherio, Kristina Iannucci and Katie Zebroski. Subsequently, Shaoulian, Prudente, Zaccherio and Zebroski won first place honors at the district competition on Feb. 7 held at St. Hyacinth Parish Gym, Glen Cove.

On March 7, Jaclyn became the Nassau Shoot Out champion, 11-year-olds, at Plainedge High School, North Massapequa. Zaccherio then went on to win first place in the Regional Free Throw Shoot Out (Bklyn, Queens, Nassau, Suffolk) held at the US Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, on March 14.

We are very proud of all our winners and especially Jaclyn Zaccherio who will now compete in the K of C New York State Shoot Out Championship on April 4, at the prestigious West Point Military Academy. Good luck to Jaclyn in the state finals.

Many thanks to the following individuals who were responsible in setting up and conducting the K of C contest event: Steve Zaccherio, youth activities chairman, Barry Milhaven, director PAL, Jim Cosolito, Ron Henderson, Tom Piccinini, PYA staff, Gene Sheriden, Saby D'Amico, Tony Carpinelli, Jim Simonsen, Richie Rawlins, Mike Katz, Columbiettes Santa Ragusa and Janet Buda.
