Rare Find for Mill Pond Model Yacht Club Centennial

This free foot, gaff-rigged "Pond yacht" was built and sailed in the early 1900s by the late John F. Gerken. It was purchased in poor condition from his granddaughter, Joan Gerken, of Port Washington by Ginger Marshall Martus. It was recently restored by Port Washingtonians Charles Blume and Jim Wood, members of the Mill Pond Model Yacht Club.

The club celebrates its 100th anniversary in 1998 and a number of activities are planned to mark the centennial, including a vintage model boat regatta and displays of memorabilia and pond yachts, old and new.

This "Pond Yacht" will be on display shortly at Louie's Shore Restaurant. For further information: Jim Wood, 767-1671.
