At 18,000 square feet, the recently reopened BottleValues Wine and Liquor in Old Bethpage is one of the biggest stores of its kind on Long Island. However, the store has more than just a vast selection to offer: with certified sommelier Ryan Armstrong on staff, the store offers expertise as well.
“I am thrilled to be working in such a large store, where I can use my expertise as a certified sommelier to help customers find the perfect wine from our broad selection,” said Armstrong, director of operations, who has 10 years of experience as a sommelier. “I am also very proud of the new team of employees we recently hired, they really understand the meaning of customer service and are willing to go the extra mile for our customers.”
Owner Jennifer Herman says that, while her store is independently owned and operated, it is similar to Bottles and Cases, BottleBuys and BottleBargains, all winners of Best of Long Island Awards. BottleValues, however, is actually larger than any of the aforementioned stores.
The store seeks to distinguish itself not only with its selection, which includes an expanded organic and Kosher section (in time for the High Holy Days), but with its pricing; in addition to some of the lowest prices around, the store offers customers an e-mail “SuperSaver” program that provides coupons for $10 off any purchase (no minimum purchase necessary), among other special deals.
A wine tasting area, which will allow customers to sample wines and spirits from all over the world every day of the week, is currently under construction. Currently, wine and spirit tastings are offered all weekend: free tastings are held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The store also plans to host different events in the world of wines and spirits: Coming up on Oct. 14, BottleValues will host a Maker’s Mark dipping event, where attendees will get a free commemorative glass they dip themselves in Maker’s famous wax. Also in October, the store will feature a tasting of a brand new chocolate wine, called The Chocolate Cellar- a treat for wine fiends and chocoholics alike.
However, for those who don’t want to mix their wine with dessert, or journey into the avant-garde of alcohol, and just want help selecting that perfect wine to serve at an upcoming dinner party with friends, the staff at BottleValues is confident they can be of service there, as well: the staff says that they seek to be the “go-to” place for party planning and general wine information.
“I have been fortunate to travel to wine producing regions in Germany, Spain, France, Italy and California and it is exciting to bring what I learn on these trips back to the store and share the experience and knowledge with our team and customers,” continued Armstrong.
