The Friends of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library are proud to present Plainview native and world-renowned classical musician, Jeffrey Biegel, for a rare local performance they are sponsoring in his hometown on Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library Auditorium.
Biegel is a known international artist recognized for his multi-faceted career as a pianist, composer, and arranger. His artistry has earned him coveted respect around the globe for his dazzling and spellbinding performances.
It is hard to believe during his formative years he was only able to hear vibrations, as Jeffrey was unable to hear, nor speak, until corrective surgery at the age of 3. After his auspicious beginnings, this celebrated graduate of the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District went on to study at the Juilliard School of Music. His electrifying technique and mesmerizing touch garners him fantastic reviews including one by the famed Leonard Bernstein, who stated; "He played fantastic Liszt. He is a splendid musician and a brilliant performer."
Some of Jeffrey's accomplishments include; initiating the first live Internet Recitals in New York and Amsterdam, currently recording the complete cycle of Mozart's Piano Sonatas for the E1 label, created the first large consortium of 27 orchestras which co-commissioned a major work for piano and orchestra by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in Music. This led to the creation of the first international consortium of orchestras, which co-commissioned Lowell Liebermann's Third Piano Concerto written exclusively for Mr. Biegel. For the 2010-11 season, the multi-Grammy winning composer, William Bolcom, has composed a new work for Mr. Biegel for piano, orchestra and chorus, commissioned for him by 10 orchestras throughout the US.
Mr. Biegel is currently part of the Piano Faculty at Brooklyn College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and proud husband to wife Sharon and their two sons, Craig and Evan.
The Friends cordially invite the community to join us for Jeffrey's special concert performance of composers Beethoven, Chopin, and Gershwin selections, followed by a reception in his honor.
