Mark Allan Koehler, a Plainview Fire Department Fire Inspector, life member and ex-captain of Engine #4, died of cardiac arrest on March 26 at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn. He was 45.
Koehler was also the vice president of the Plainview Benevolent Association and active member of both the Fireman's Association of the State of New York and the Southern New York Volunteer Fireman's Association.
Koehler was born in Bethpage and was a life long resident of Old Bethpage. He joined the Plainview Fire Department Junior Program when he was in his teens. He selflessly served his community his entire life.
Koehler was a loyal colleague and friend of many fire departments and fire marshals on Long Island as well as many members of the Nassau and Suffolk County and NYC Police Departments.
The final selfless act for Koehler was donating his organs. Some recipients of his gifts will be firemen from the Fireman's Burn Center.
Mark is survived by his parents, Robert and Elaine Koehler of Old Bethpage, his sisters DeAnn Koehler, Lorraine Frangesh, Karen Giannetto and his niece and nephew Cara Marie and Christopher Charles Ciannetto.
