Plainview Water District Commissioners Edward Shulroff, Kevin Langberg and Joel Kessler suggest that you adhere to the following tips when leaving your home unattended this winter:
Set your home thermostat no lower than 60 degrees.
Check your water meter pit cover to assure that it is securely bolted down, and that the cover is intact.
Insulate all hot water pipes in unheated areas to prevent freezing or bursting.
Have water lines and heating system professionally drained.
Disconnect and drain all outside hoses.
Drain all lawn sprinkler systems.
Add non-toxic antifreeze to toilet bowls to prevent water from freezing in the bowl.
Taking these simple precautions will allow you to travel free from worry about winter water damage to your "home, sweet home." For more information contact the Plainview Water District Customer Service Department at 931-6469.
