Always dependable Richard Siegelman.
He is ever willing to help a columnist who is running short of ideas. I requested help with new ideas and Richard came through. Thanks, Rich, for these new and revolutionary concepts. I have interjected my thoughts after each one.
1) "Shouldn't all disease charities that conduct 'FOR' autism, breast cancer, etc., change their wording to AGAINST?"
Stan G. - Very sensible idea, Richard.
2) "The Judge who allowed a guy who drove past six 'Wrong Way signs onto the LIE before crashing into a truck, to go free and endanger more innocent victims, if he merely pays $1,250 cash bond, should have his picture on Newsday's front page.''
Stan G. - What should the Judge have sentenced the guy to, Richard?
3) "The FBI's too little, too late 'case' against Bruce Ivins (the alleged anthrax killer) is not very credible given that they haven't said a word about his HANDWRITING matching the lettering on the HANDWRITTEN envelopes and letters."
Stan G. - These events happened about six years ago. You are correct, Richard. Only now is the case presumably solved.
4) "Why are 'criminals on the run' routinely allowed to fight extradition when it is not one of their Constitutional rights? What Article IV says is, 'A person charged in any state with treason, felony or other crime, who shall flee from justice and be found in another state shall ON DEMAND of the Executive Authority of the state from which he fled, be delivered up, to be removed to the state having jurisdiction of the crime'."
Stan G. - You know your Constitution pretty darn well, Richard. I am not well versed in these matters, so I will take your word for your statement.
5) "A Nassau County Court Judge has sentenced a bank robber to consecutive prison terms totaling 43 years. I'm hoping this sets a legal precedent for even longer, non-concurrent sentences for future child abusers, mobsters, rapists, murderers and drunk driver killers."
Stan G. - You certainly are a "Law and Order" advocate, Richard. I, too, believe in harsher sentences for crimes against children.
There you have it!
