Daniel Holmes and Caroline Fanning, owners of Restoration Farm, a privately run, economically viable organic vegetable farm at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, are gearing up for the 2008 season.
The farm encompasses seven non-contiguous acres at the southern tip of Nassau County's Old Bethpage Village Restoration, which is modeled on a 19th-century village. Restoration Farm is a separate operation using modern organic methods and technology. The larger fields will be planted with annual vegetables, while the smaller, irregular pieces will be reserved for perennial gardens, greenhouses, tool sheds, and compost.
Holmes and Fanning are offering farm tours on May 10 and 11. Those interested can meet at the gate on Spagnoli Road at 10 a.m.
Starting in June, the farm stand will open and run Saturdays 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Old Bethpage Village Restoration parking lot.
Restoration farm is located at 1303 Round Swamp Road in Old Bethpage. Please e-mail info@restorationfarm.com or visit www.restorationfarm.com for more information.
