The third-grade students of the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District are learning about the importance of water conservation and how to protect the environment thanks to an educational program brought to them by the Plainview Water District.

Starflower Experiences is a local not-for-profit educational organization that offers programs and experiences to help people understand, appreciate and live more in harmony with the earth's life system. Visiting each Plainview-Old Bethpage elementary school throughout March, Starflower Experiences' Laurie Farber prepares the students to join the Water Patrol, using a variety of educational and entertaining methods including song, stories and puppets, and of course, the Water Patrol Anthem.

Plainview Water District Water Commissioner Edward Shulroff was on hand for the March 10 presentation at Pasadena Elementary to share some interesting facts about how water gets to the students' homes from deep underground, and to stress the importance of keeping that water supply clean and plentiful.

Starflower Experiences has been visiting the POB schools for a number of years, educating them on the myths and truths about the water cycle, the water supply and the environment.
