The Plainview Water District was quick to respond to a recent water main break in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District. A water main ruptured affecting the Jamaica Avenue School, debilitating the three day care centers that currently are housed in the building. Plainview Water District staff assessed the damage quickly and notified the school district that the building would be without water due to the severity of the break.

By controlling the damage quickly, Jamaica Avenue School and neighboring residents had fresh running water before nightfall.

Plainview Water District's dedicated personnel respond to a recent water main break.

Repairing a damaged water main is a daunting task that can take many hours, especially when dealing with the freezing temperatures and sub-zero wind chills, but water district personnel have managed to keep disruptions in service to a minimum. Board of Commissioners Chairman Ed Shulroff credits their fleet of dedicated water technicians for a smooth transition through the winter months.

"The men and women of the Plainview Water District are some of the hardest working public servants in our community," said Chairman Shulroff. "They're out there day and night in some of the worst weather imaginable making sure that our residents are provided with the quality water service that they've come to expect from us."

Plainview Water District personnel are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to ensure that safe drinking water is available to the public at all times.

"It's unfortunate whenever a water main breaks, as service is disrupted to our consumers and our employees must work under any and all circumstances to remedy the situation," stated Commissioner Shulroff. "My fellow commissioners and I are proud of those employees who have answered the call quickly and effectively. Their selfless actions speak volumes of the Plainview Water District's staff."

Residents should call the Plainview Water District at 931-6469 to report any water main breaks.
