The 2nd Nassau district Masons were on hand to provide fingerprinting and state of the art child identification cards. The 8th precinct police department came down and provided information on child safety. The Bethpage Fire department came down in force with a big red fire truck and the infamous "smoke truck".
"We received information on fire prevention and gas leaks" said Terry Mason, Plainview, who came to the event with her two children Jessica, 10 and Matt, 6. "The kids are getting ready to go on the (Bethpage) smoke truck. This event is great. And it's at the kids' level to help them understand how important it is to take care of the environment."
Tickle Me Elmo, who was surrounded by a large group of fans, spoke to the kids about the importance of exercise and healthy eating habits.
"This is great. We were able to get our picture taken with Elmo" said Timothy Lairden, 8, from Bethpage.
The free event also included information on Neuro-feedback by Dr. Joyce Epstein, Karate demonstrations by Busto's Karate, tattooing, free food, and shows by the Kismet Shriner Clowns.
Kids Day America was started 13 years ago. "The event has since spread to some 2000 cities worldwide and has reached some three million children," said Dr. Epstein, who provided free spine and nervous system screenings. He added, "These screenings are important because the nervous system controls one's immune system and biochemistry. It's important that the spine be aligned as you grow so you can be as healthy as possible. If there is interference, a chiropractic adjustment can remove that interference, and allow the body to work at its optimal level."
Dr. Epstein received Proclamations from Senators Kemp Hannon and Carl Marcellino, as well as The Honorable Thomas Suozzi which was presented by Deputy Commissioner James W. Reed. "I love to be here on a day like this especially for the children," said Reed. In addition Dr. Epstein received associate membership to the Fraternal Order of Police presented by Lodge 656 President Al Castro, who's police car was a huge hit for the kids.
Children's Empowerment awards were given to Coach Janine Friedman, Plainview as well as Officer Paul Lamonica, the Kismet Clowns and finally the Kismet Roadrunners for the contributions they have made to the children of our community.
