Opinion

It was a very spirited 2007 Board of Education campaign. Everyone involved, no matter their candidate of choice, should feel proud of their efforts. The incumbents were gracious in their congratulations and I wish Mrs. Dender, Mrs. Richter and Mrs. Shapp all the best.

Our community has spoken and I am humbled by the trust and confidence of my fellow citizens. I fully recognize that with this trust comes a duty to serve all in our community and I will do my best to fulfill that duty every day as a Trustee on our Board of Education.

With hard work, we will raise our district's academic performance. With hard work, we will control costs and provide justice to our taxpayers. I am eager for the hard work ahead.

Reaching these goals will require the broad support of our district and community. So I say to all in our district and community, regardless of whom you supported or voted for, let's come together and work together to restore our school district to its rightful place as one of the best on Long Island. The campaign has ended and we enter a new time of hope.
