Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School Principal James Murray recently announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2007, Oren Factor and Jenna Katz.
Oren Factor has earned the honor of being named valedictorian for Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School's Class of 2007 with an average of 100.86.
An active participant in the life of POBJFKHS as well as in the community, Oren is a member of National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society. He has participated in Mathletes competitions, the Model United Nations Club, the school newspaper, Science Olympiads and Independent Research. Athletically, Oren was a member of the junior varsity baseball team, and the JV and varsity tennis teams. His community activities include tutoring other students and volunteering at Plainview North Shore Hospital.
"Oren is a student who participates for all the right reasons and accomplishes his goals modestly, without seeking the recognition he receives," said Murray. "We are proud to have him as the Class of 2007's valedictorian."
Oren Factor will be attending college in the fall and plans to pursue a career as a medical doctor.
Jenna Katz combines impressive talent with exceptional intellect. With a cumulate average of 100.62, she has earned the distinction of being designated as the salutatorian of the POFJFKHS class of 2007.
Jenna has participated in every musical theater production during her time at POBJFKHS and has performed in a wide variety of community productions as well. She is also involved in numerous school organizations. Reflecting her writing ability and the respect she garners from students and teachers, Jenna serves as editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, as well as president of the National Honor Society, leading by example and inspiring her fellow members with her genuine desire to help others. Since 11th grade, Jenna has been very active in CLASSP, the Consortia for Learning and Services to Special Populations. She volunteers at least two hours per week in programs targeted towards the social development of children with special needs.
"Without exception, Jenna has enrolled in our most rigorous and challenging classes," said Murray. "She will be completing ten Advanced Placement classes upon graduation."
Jenna Katz is passionate about learning and exploring everything she can about the world around her. Next year she will be attending the University of Pennsylvania.
