Second Squad detectives report the details of an arrest for a robbery that occurred on Monday, Feb. 12 at 1:27 a.m. in Plainview.
According to detectives, the defendants, Andrew Saba, 19, of Deer Park, Fernando Arias Jr., 20, of Dix Hills, and a subject not yet arrested drove to the victim's residence on Southern Parkway in Plainview in defendant Arias' vehicle armed with a handgun and two baseball bats. The defendants knew the victim had money and drugs in his house and had planned to rob him. Defendant Arias, armed with a black handgun and Saba with third co-defendant armed with baseball bats, approached the victim's house and shattered the glass window. The victim observed the defendants approaching his house armed and jumped out the bedroom window.
Once outside, all three defendants surrounded the victim. Arias put a handgun to the victim's neck and demanded money. The victim complied and gave defendants an unknown amount of currency. As defendant Arias held the victim at gunpoint, defendant Saba entered the house. Uniform officers began to arrive on the scene causing the defendants to flee the scene.
Police Officer Zylinski, while on patrol, observed the defendant Arias operating a 2004 Infiniti, pass a steady red light at the intersection of Old Country Road and Gerhard Street and initiated a traffic stop. Officer Peters from the Canine Unit responded to the scene with canine Duke who apprehended defendant Saba as he was hiding in the bushes on Brook Path Road. Defendant Arias was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree, Burglary 1st Degree and Robbery 1st Degree. They were arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Feb. 13.
During the police investigation for the above burglary, Detectives searched the residence of the victim. A black and red duffel bag, which had seven glass mason jars containing a greenish brown substance believed to be marijuana, a bottle of 85 pills believed to be oxycontin, two glass pipes and approximately $1,000 in assorted U.S. currency, was found. Further search of the residence revealed drug paraphernalia, including scales, bongs, numerous glassine bags and two horticultural lamps. Upon searching his 2001 BMW, approximately $3,700 in assorted U.S. currency was found along with a Billy club. Defendant/victim Eric W. Abrahamson, 22, of Plainview, was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of Marihuana 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Feb. 13.
