According to Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice's office, Kevin Langberg, commissioner of the Plainview Water District, was indicted by a grand jury for allegedly offering a false instrument for filing and falsifying business records, both felonies.
The case was referred to Rice's office last spring, who completed the investigation and Langberg was indicted on charges earlier this week. According to Rice's office, the charges stem from the submission of five payment vouchers for Water District meetings Langberg didn't attend.
He was arraigned and released by Judge Gulotta on Tuesday.
"The Plainview Water District has every confidence in our system of justice. We will cooperate with any requests for information from law enforcement authorities. It will be inappropriate to comment any further while this investigation and legal process is going forward," the Plainview Water District said in a recent statement.
Langberg was first elected commissioner of the Plainview Water District in 2001 and his term is up for re-election this year. He is running unopposed for another term during the election on Tuesday.
