Nassau County Police Commissioner James Lawrence says that his Buckle Up New York, Click It Or Ticket initiative enforcement of seat belt laws is "...a Zero tolerance policy even though it will exist for a very limited number of days. (The November 24 story says "...now through Nov. 26").

Unfortunately, it seems that he will "tolerate" seat belt law violations for most of the other 365 days in the year.

If he was really serious about "zero tolerance" when he said "The goal of the program is to increase safety belt and child seat usage in an effort to reduce serious injuries and fatalities resulting from motor vehicle accidents", he would have his police officers practice "high visibility enforcement" for 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week/ 365 days a year (and 366 days in leap years)----rather than only on a few holiday weekends a year.
