A hearing was held last Thursday with the Town of Oyster Bay Zoning Board of Appeals regarding Omni Point Communications, Inc.'s petition for a special use permit to erect an 80 foot light pole inside of which public utility wireless telecommunication antennas will be mounted and concealed with ancillary equipment cabinets located on the ground. The pole would be located at 52 Manetto Hill Road in Plainview.

Approximately 50 residents attended the meeting and voiced their opinion and concerns - all were strongly opposed to the tower, which they dubbed a cell tower.

The decision of the board was reserved. If the Zoning Board votes in favor of an application, the decision is then brought to the Building Department, who issues a permit for whatever work will be done. If the Zoning Board denies the application, then the decision is mailed back to the applicant. Either party has 30 days to appeal the decision.

Anyone who would like to comment on their hearing can call the Zoning Board of Appeals at 624-6230 or send comments via e-email by visiting the town's website at www.oysterbaytown.com and click on the "contact us" link. When referring to his hearing, indicate Appeal No. 06-416, Zoning Board Hearing No. 26.
