Five years ago, the National Foundation for Human Potential began a very special tradition in order to help to preserve the legacy of a very special young man--Louis Acompora. Louis was an exceptional young man who embodied the spirit and values of his community. Louis died in a tragic lacrosse accident at the age of 14. Louis was an exceptional athlete, scholar and citizen. The Louis J. Acompora Memorial Award was created to honor a Special Olympian who also embodies the qualities of integrity, perseverance and loyalty.

Karen and John, Louis' parents, presented the award to Richard and Robert at the Sports Auction held in June at the Fox Hollow, Woodbury.

This important fundraising event was fun for the entire family. Children and adults mingled with sports and entertainment celebrities, collected autographs, bid on one-of-a kind memorabilia, trips and sports tickets and enjoyed a fabulous dinner. A special treat for children was their own auction and a popcorn and cotton candy machine. For more information on the Annual Sports and Entertainment Auction or how you can help support people with disabilities please contact the Office of Development at 870-1661.
