From April 29 to May 2, the Plainview DECA Chapter attended the International Career Development Conference in Dallas, Texas. After winning at the local level, then the state level, each student advances to the international level where over 15,000 students from across the country, Canada, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands were in attendance. This year, 23 students from Plainview DECA competed in events including role-plays and manual presentations.
Although each student's achievement of reaching the international level is a major accomplishment, Justin Silver achieved Top 10 status in the food marketing competition. After winning first place at the New York state competition, he competed against hundreds of students at the international conference. Justin was able to prove that he had the skills needed to impress the judges and take home a medal.
Besides competing, the Plainview DECA chapter was also able to bond in the City of Dallas. The students and their advisors Gloria Jones, Sue Rachell and Mike Secko attended an authentic rodeo and were able to enjoy Texas cuisine and hospitality. Hopefully next year in Orlando, FL the Plainview DECA chapter will have another successful year.
