The school district budget vote and board of education elections _Super Tuesday is set for May 16 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. _
May is a very important month for Long Island homeowners, as it is the time of year that we all have the opportunity to make a direct positive impact on the excellence of our educational system, our libraries and the future of our children. As Super Tuesday, May 16, draws near we wanted to highlight some important public information regarding the 2006-07 school budget, board of education elections, and library vote. _
Within the content of the following we have included contact names and phone numbers if you should have any questions. In addition to the resources provided, all community members are welcome to visit the school district's website at: www.pob.k12.ny.us. for more information.
A person shall be eligible to vote in any school election of school district officers and budgets if they meet the following criteria:, ***A citizen of the United States, ***eighteen years of age or older, ***A resident within the district for a period of 30 days preceding the date of the vote., ***registered. Any person who is registered to vote for general election purposes (federal, state or county elections) will be entitled to vote at school district elections without further registration. In summary, you may vote if your name appears on the school district registration lists or on the county registration lists.
Registration date for new voters is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9. Registration is from noon to 9 p.m. at either Jamaica Avenue School, POB Middle School or Old Bethpage Elementary School. If you are not sure of your assigned location, you may contact the district clerk-Harriet Fischer at 937-6301.
Absentee ballots may be utilized for voting on the school district budget and on propositions presented, and for voting for members of the board of education. To obtain a ballot application please contact District Clerk Harriet Fischer at the above number. Applications may either be mailed or dropped off with the district clerk at Central Administration, Office of the Superintendent, Mattlin Middle School, Washington Avenue, Plainview. Residents' applications will be checked to see if they are registered voters. Ballots will only be mailed to registered voters. Ballots must be dropped off or returned via mail to the Office of the District Clerk by the day of the vote. For questions you may contact the District Clerk.

This informational forum will be run by the League of Women Voters - Tuesday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at POB Middle School. Residents are encouraged to attend to make informed choices.
