The third grade students of Old Bethpage, Parkway, Pasadena and Stratford Road schools are learning about the importance of water conservation and how to protect the environments thanks to a program brought to them by the Plainview Water District.

Plainview Water District Commissioner Edward Shulroff and Joel Kessler teach Pasadena Elementary School students the importance of water conservation.

Laurie Farber from Starflower Experiences taught the POB students using a variety of educational and entertaining methods including song, stories, and puppets.

Starflower Experiences is a local not-for-profit educational organization that offers programs and experiences to help people understand, appreciate, and live more in harmony with the earth's life systems.Starflower Experiences has been visiting the POB schools for a number of years, educating them on the myths and truths about the water cycle, the water supply, and the environment. As part of Starflower's presentation, Kevin Langberg, chairman of the Plainview Water District, participated in a question and answer session with the students at Stratford Road Elementary School, engaging them in a conversation about some of the important issues surrounding water conservation.Langberg explained to the students the duties and responsibilities of the Water District and how safe, clean water is delivered to their homes every day.Students also offered their own ideas about how to conserve water like taking shorter showers and not running the faucet while brushing their teeth.Plainview Water District Commissioners Joel Kessler and Edward Shulroff also visited the students during Starflower's presentations.

Commissioner Langberg was pleased with the presentation and the reaction of the students."It is important to teach people at an early age the importance of water conservation and just how precious it is in our daily lives and in the future.Starflower Experiences reaches out to students in a unique way to make this lesson especially effective. It is very encouraging to see young people so excited about preserving our natural environment," commented Commissioner Kevin Langberg.
