Catherine Carman, math teacher at Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School, was recently honored with the PTA Founder's Day Award. The award, given by the Parent Teacher Association, honors a teacher in the district who has gone above and beyond for students and the community. She was honored with a pin and certificate on March 8 at the Crest Hollow Country Club.

Carman currently serves the students at POB JFK High School as the senior class advisor, community service advisory, boys lacrosse statistician, SING advisor, athletic supervisor, and is present at most athletic and extra-curricular events. She is always available when students need help, whether it be in math, another subject, or a personal matter. A teacher at the high school for nine years, she has taught Math A, Math B and Intermediate Algebra at the high school level. Carman has set the standard for teaching Collaborative Math A in the district.
After graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Adelphi University, Carman received her certification in both Elementary Education and Mathematics Education. She received her master's degree in Special Education from Long Island University's C.W. Post campus. She currently resides in Seaford.
