In response to the recent news that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is reopening and expanding its assessment of hazardous waste sites throughout New York State, including several sites in the Plainview Industrial Park, the Concerned Citizens of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Community, Inc. announced that they are co-sponsoring a Community Informational Forum with the Plainview Water District.

The purpose of the forum is to provide the community an opportunity to learn directly from the NYS-DEC about the new body of knowledge on vapor intrusion; its implications at hazardous waste sites and the focus of their new assessment and remediation methodologies. The forum panelists will include representation from the NYS-DEC and NYS-Health Department. The evening has been structured to afford the NYS-DEC an opportunity to present information regarding the nature, depth and time frame of their planned investigation at the Industrial Park. The NYS-Health Department will be available to provide information related to public health concerns. The program will also be opened up to a question and answer period for resident participation.

The Concerned Citizens feel as a community, it is essential to remain proactive in safeguarding the environment and always advocate for residents to strive for the highest standards where their health and welfare are concerned.

The Plainview Water District and the Concerned Citizens of the Plainview-Old Bethpage Community, Inc. welcome and urge all community members to attend this public meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library Auditorium, located at 999 Old Country Road, Plainview.

For more information, the Concerned Citizens can be reached via e-mail at: ccpobc1@aol.com. Both organizations are looking forward to the community's attendance on March 15.
