Over 300 people, including local residents, dignitaries, politicians and civic leaders, watched as the all-Republican town board was sworn in and gave the new board a standing ovation - the first time that it is all-Republican board in Oyster Bay since 1976.
Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Rose Marie Walker served as master of ceremonies at the induction ceremony. She first introduced Amvets Post 88 and American Legion Post 1066, both from Massapequa, to present the colors for the Pledge of Allegiance. Next, Thomas Fusco, from St. Edward RC Church in Syosset said the invocation.
Republican chairman Joseph Mondello first administered the oath to Town Clerk Steve Labriola, who was sworn in to his second term as clerk in the Town of Oyster Bay. "Thank you to the people of Oyster Bay for giving me your trust and voting for me," said Labriola who also thanked Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto and his running mates. "I am proud to be part of the Venditto team and the Venditto vision."
Mondello next called on Town of Oyster Bay Councilman Chris Coschignano, Town of Oyster Bay Councilman Angelo Delligatti and the newest member of the board, Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Beth Faughnan, to swear them in. Standing in front of the three councilmembers and their families, Mondello received a loud round of applause when he said, "What a fine bunch of Republicans, huh everybody?" He then recited the oath to all three councilmembers.
"I grew up in the Town of Oyster Bay, so it is wonderful to now sit on the board," said Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Beth Faughnan, who was sworn in for her first term as councilwoman. "2005 was a great year for me because I got to spend it with the residents of the Town of Oyster Bay. John [Venditto] is an incredible supervisor and I thank him for allowing me to be part of his team. Also, thanks to my dad who is here with me and my mom who is here in spirit," she said through her tears.
Town of Oyster Bay Councilman Chris Coschignano first thanked the residents for returning him to office and his family, including wife and two children, for their support. "I am glad to serve for another four years," said Coschignano, who was sworn in for his second term. "When I was first elected four years ago, there were five Democrats on the board, now we have nine elected Republicans in the Town of Oyster Bay."
Town of Oyster Bay Councilman Angelo Delligatti said he was sworn in 20 years ago for his first term and said he was looking forward to serving the residents of the Town of Oyster Bay for another four years. "The Town of Oyster Bay has never been a better place to love, work and raise a family because of John Venditto," said Delligatti. "I look forward to working with him again."
After Mondello praised the residents of the Town of Oyster Bay for putting all Republicans in office, he introduced John Venditto, who received a standing ovation. "My colleagues on the town board work tirelessly and always have the best interests of the Town of Oyster Bay in their heart," said Venditto, after being sworn in to his fifth term as supervisor. "There is a common thread that runs through all of us and that is quality of life." After receiving advice from his daughter, he ended by saying, "the best is yet to come."
After the benediction by Rabbi Schmuel Lipszyc, from the Town of Oyster Bay Chabad, attendees enjoyed conversation and refreshments with their all-Republican Town of Oyster Bay board.
