The Joseph F. Lamb Council No. 5723 Knights of Columbus, Plainview/Hicksville, held their annual Awards Night on June 16 in the school basement of Our Lady of Mercy School, in Hicksville. A large crowd of brother knights and their wives and families were on hand to witness the presentation of the various awards given to the members of the council for their special achievements during the Columbian year of July 2004 to June 2005.

Also on hand was Rev. Father Robert Y. Blyman, pastor of Our Lady of Mercy Church, who is the chaplain of the Lamb Council. He was joined by his friend Rev. Father Louis.

Outgoing Grand Knight Otto Schmidtmann, FDD, who just completed his one year term as G.K., did an outstanding job in organizing and presenting the various awards during the evening.

Award certificates were first given to the 12 brother knights, who were selected throughout the year, as Knight of the Month.

Then certificates of achievements, were given to various members of the council for outstanding efforts during the year.

Next on the agenda was the presentation of the Joseph F. Lamb Catholic Family of the Year award, which was given to P.G.K. Joseph P. Allison and his wife Irene.

PGK Allison is in charge of the Retention Committee. He served as Lamb Grand Knight from July 1, 1997 to June 30, 1999. Not only is he extremely active in the council, but he is also very involved in Our Lady of Mercy Church, serving as a lay minister and lector. He is also involved in many parish organizations, such as the Joe Lamb Knights of Columbus Council, the Holy Name Society, and the St. Vincent De Paul. He has been active with the St. Vincent De Paul group for over 40 years, of which he served as president for 25 of those years.

The Knight of the Year award was given to P.G.K., F.D.D., P.C.C. Robert F. Corrado. This plaque was given to P.G.K. Corrado for his outstanding efforts for the Lamb Council, not only in the year 2004/2005, but for his active participation in so many activities throughout the previous years. P.G.K. Corrado was Grand Knight of the Lamb Council from July 1972 to June 1973. He was the district deputy of the 11th District, serving in that office from 1975 to 1976. He also served as chapter chairman of the Nassau/Suffolk Chapter from 1990 - 1992.

Also on hand to view the awards ceremony was John Greenfield, owner of the two Shoprite stores in Plainview. A plaque and a certificate of appreciation were presented to him for his past very generous support to the Lamb Council affairs and C & B charity chance books program.

Certificates of appreciation and plaques were also sent to the owners of Bagel Boss in Hicksville, and Towne Bagel in Plainview, who were unable to attend. Both stores have been very helpful with the Lamb C & B program.

At the end of the evening, white roses were given to all of the ladies present, for their support of the Joe Lamb Council.
