Thanks to hundreds of generous supporters of the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center in Plainview, children whose families could not afford to send them to camp this summer will now have an opportunity to experience summer camp.

The Mid-Island Y JCC's fourth annual Tour de Fun family event held July 28 raised $9,000, enabling the JCC to provide financial aid for underprivileged children to participate in summer camp programs.

The all-day camp event featured fun-filled games and activities for all JCC campers. Parents demonstrated their support by donating items for a Chinese Auction. Campers received Tour de Fun t-shirts and prizes.

The evening family celebration was attended by more than 400 parents and children. Music, dancing, games, carnival booths, burlap sack races, gold rush, watermelon-eating contest, raffles and refreshments were enjoyed by all at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Wheatley Heights. Entertainment Tonite Music Inc. of Bellmore generously provided the DJ and dancers. Del-Mir Caterers of Massapequa donated and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for the crowd. Radio station Q104.3 and Skateasaurus from United Skates of America of Seaford added excitement to the evening.

Chairing this year's Tour de Fun Committee were Ali Kusinitz and Meryl Sands. Dedicated committee members included Debbie Baer, Bonnie Goldberg, Glenda Golubow, Ariann Lewis, Laura Roodenberg and Keith Senzer.

The Mid-Island Y JCC received generous donations from the following sponsors: Adventureland, Apple & Eve, Donna Begin, The Bettan Family, Cami Cleaners, Champion Motor Group, Dairy Plus Inc., Del-Mir Caterers, Dr. B. Well, Entertainment Tonite, Eyeglass House, Father Sons & Daughters, Fun Zone, Friedenreich Family, Joyce Glick, Greenfield's ShopRite, Incredible Feet, Dr. Julia Izen, Kaos Kids LLC, Lerach, Coughlin, Stoia, Geller, Lewis Family, Mart Liquors, Mid-Island Allergy Group, My Bagel King, Inc., Pediatric Health Associates, Personnel Consulting Associates, Dr. Charles Pillar, Dr. Lisa Ritter-Kahn, Rudman Family, Ruven's Delicatessan, Sands Family, Sandwich Deli Express, Silverman Family, Joe Slater, Tantleff Family, Toys R Us, United Skates of America, Wood Kingdom.
