The Plainview Water District will be rescheduling their April 28 public status meeting to review and inform the public on the remedial actions that are being taken to provide treatment for the threatened water supply well located at Plant No. 2 on Donna Drive. The meeting has been rescheduled due to the fact that the water district is waiting for new designs and looking for ways to modify the construction at the site. Therefore, the April 28 meeting is being delayed until May.
The construction of a wellhead treatment system at the supply well 2-1 located on Donna Drive commenced this past November. This capital project also included various site and facility upgrades for improving public health, safety and security protection. The treatment system is being proactively constructed to address degrading water quality conditions due to past industrial spills documented within the Plainview Industrial Park. Accordingly, the water district has removed the supply well from service and commenced with the construction of a wellhead treatment system. During construction, water is being transferred from other portions of our system.
Please note that the water is safe to drink. This action is being undertaken proactively to ensure the safety of the drinking water supply.
Concerns about the implementation of the design for a retaining wall have been raised and after reviewing the artist rendering, the board of commissioners clearly recognized that the design, does not reflect the construction of the structure. Due to this problem, the construction of the wall was immediately stopped Feb. 16. The water district is reviewing new design options and the construction program at the site. The input and point of view of the community is very critical to this project. When the construction began, the Plainview Water District held a public meeting for the community. Now that they are in the process of developing a new plan, the water district will hold another public meeting for your thoughts. Please note that no further construction will begin until the next public meeting.
The commissioners, who reside in the community, take these concerns seriously. Accordingly, the water district will reschedule this meeting in May to review and inform the public on the measures to address concerns related to the retaining wall. This retaining wall was designed to protect the public from local landslide dangers and provide safe employee access to our vital water supply and storage facility. In addition, residents will be provided with an update on the remedial actions that are underway to provide treatment for the impacted water supply well located at our Plant No. 2 on Donna Drive.
