The news that Oyster Bay Town Supervisor and the Town of Oyster Bay have come up with a grant to put an all-weather track at John F. Kennedy Plainview High School is nothing short of wonderful. Those of us who have been community residents and avid runners for as many years as I have are absolutely thrilled. Plainview is one of the last communities on Long Island to install an all-weather track to replace the long obsolete cinder track, and it is a great thing for our schools, our youngsters and our community generally.

I know that the coverage of this news in the Plainview Herald lauded our great Town Supervisor, and I wanted to add my praise as well for this dedicated public servant who has done so much for Plainview-Old Bethpage and other local communities. John is a good man who truly cares for the town and its residents.

I also wanted to make sure that credit was given to the contribution of Bob Eslick and his "Kids Helping Kids" organization. Bob has been lobbying the school district and the town for many years to make this track happen; and even though he is certainly not one to toot his own horn, he certainly deserves prominent mention among the other groups and citizens that contributed to the new track becoming a reality after decades of trying. Thanks, Bob!
