The Plainview- Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce recently announced Anna Goidell as their nominee for this year's 2004 Town of Oyster Bay Women of Distinction Award. Goidell and her husband Gene have been fixtures in the POB community for over 50 years and determining which category best describes and encompasses all the contributions Goidell has made will be difficult. Anna has been involved in a myriad of arts, community and civic affairs, education and humanitarian as well as volunteer organizations. She is a remarkable woman and a wonderful role model for everyone lucky enough to know her.
At the November 17 POB Chamber of Commerce meeting, guest speaker Barbara Whiting, economist development specialist from the US Small Business Administration, gave insightful and pertinent information pertaining to low interest rate loans, government contracts and other information available through the SBA.
With the help of Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs, the second POB Chamber of Commerce sign, Live, Work and Play in Plainview-Old Bethpage has found a home on the island at the merging intersection of Old Country and Round Swamp Roads just west of the Long Island Expressway.
Plans continue to be discussed as to constructing gardens under both POB signs. The original POB chamber sign is located on the corner of Old Country and Central Park Roads and plans include site revitalization for the police booth and entire area.
