There have been many Memorial Services for fallen heroes whose lives had been cut short due do the ravages of war. On Oct. 1, the Plainview-Old Bethpage High School had a touching dedication ceremony honoring three young men whose lives were taken during the Vietnam War. A plaque bearing the names of Specialist James Joseph Bolson, Staff Sergeant John Jay Janoska Jr., Private First Class Eric Donn Saltz was unveiled next to the flagpole at the main entrance to Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School.

Remembering the fallen heroes.

Members of the Plainview American Legion and VFW Honor Guard stood at attention as the POB Honors Choir sang God Bless America. Three current POB students Joseph Weinstein, Ross Levine, and Joseph Heney read short biographies for each solider. Taps was played and the flag lowered to half-staff. Everyone in attendance, including elected officials and community leaders, identified with and were personally touched by the tribute. All three men were graduates of Plainview, lost their lives in Vietnam, but had they lived, would be their contemporaries today.
