Congressman Steve Israel talks to Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs near the dangerous intersection of Woodbury Road and Syosset Woodbury Road.

Congressman Steve Israel held a press conference last Friday, along with Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs, to demand that the White House and Republican leadership in the House and Senate provide the funds to fix dangerous intersections. The press conference was held at the intersection of Woodbury Road and Syosset Woodbury Road, one of the intersections that Israel would like fixed. Of the $14 million that Israel secured, $1.5 million is dedicated to making this specific intersection safer.
Congressman Israel recently secured $14 million in the House-passed Transportation Equity Act. At the press conference, he was asking that the Senate stop their jurisdictional battles and reach a final agreement on the legislation.
"I'm proud to have secured $14 million in projects for Long Island in the House-passed transportation bill, including $1.5 million to repair the dangerous Woodbury Road/Syosset Woodbury Road Intersection," said Israel. "We are willing to spend what it takes to pave the roads in Baghdad, so we certainly can afford to improve dangerous intersections like this one here at home."
Jacobs agreed with Israel and applauded the efforts he has made on this issue. "Any improvement to this deadly intersection is long overdue," said Jacobs. "I am extremely grateful to Congressman Israel for securing the $1.5 million for this project."
