The evening of Saturday, June 12 along with the following Sunday, I was prouder than I have ever been to be both a resident and businessman in the community of Plainview Old Bethpage. The turnout and generosity of our community at the Relay for Life astonished not only myself and other members of the Trio Hardware team, but almost every individual I spoke with during the course of this event. The dedication, drive, determination and sheer willingness to do something to help a cause that touches the hearts of so many brought out people from every area of POB. There were school board members, janitors, doctors, lawyers, retired people, babies, teenagers and it just brought tears to my eyes and my heart seeing what our community had done, had accomplished. About 300 people remained overnight to "complete the Relay." One community participant, Bob Eslick, walked nonstop throughout the night. He walked while thinking and being moved by what he saw. He walked approximately 62 miles before leaving around 7 a.m. on Sunday.

Another relative of mine attended a relay for life in her community where they raised $40,000. A nice figure indeed. At the POB Middle School over 2,500 people gave up their weekend to raise and contribute money to help win the war against cancer. We, as a community, raised in excess of $121,000 - WOW. Thank you Plainview.
