The Plainview Herald has covered many issues regarding development of open space and has witnessed good and also some unfortunate outcomes.
Charles Wang met with local residents at a meeting, which he was not required to have. It was his choice to establish an open and working relationship with the community concerning the development of his property.
What makes Plainview and Old Bethpage such great communities, among many things, is the diversity of the residents. This diversity brings differences in opinions, beliefs and tastes - all adding to the richness of the area.
When a community is given the opportunity to weigh in on an issue such as the new development proposal "Old Plainview," a variety of ideas are bound to be brought up from different residents. It would be impossible to please everyone.
What residents need to remember is that something is going to be built on those 166 acres. Charles Wang should not be looked upon negatively because he wants to build on his property and make a profit - anyone who was in his position would.
Residents are lucky to have been given a voice early on in what is going to be a long process. Residents need to evaluate the plan as it relates to all of Plainview and Old Bethpage, not just to individual needs as it is impossible to please everyone.
