Anne Markowitz Recht

Anne Markowitz Recht, a resident of Plainview, was honored recently by The Long Island Alzheimer's Foundation (LIAF) at their Tenth Annual Outstanding Service Awards Luncheon held at The Garden City Hotel. The theme of the luncheon was "Celebrate the Garden: The Sweetest Flowers in all the World-a Caregiver's Hands."

Anne Markowitz Recht, CSW has been the facilitator for the Wednesday Early and Late Stage Alzheimer's Groups for one and a half years at LIAF Port Washington. She is also a geriatric care manager with her own company, AM Recht and Associates, Inc. Anne participates in Guardianship training and speaks to groups about Geriatric Care Management, Caregivers and other topics relating to seniors. Recht is on the advisory board of The Adelphi New York Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program; she also volunteers on numerous committees at Midway Jewish Center. Her degrees include a bachelor of arts from the University of Albany and a master of social work from Adelphi University. "Most people like Wednesdays because it means that the end of the work week is near; I love Wednesdays because I get to see my wonderful group members," she said. Recht has been married to her husband Howard for 20 years; they have two children.

There were 25 individual honorees in addition to Recht, as well as a Distinguished Medical Achievement Award presented to Blaine S. Greenwald, M.D., director of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at The Zucker Hillside Hospital- Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and an Excellence in Alzheimer's Research Award to Roberto Malinow, M.D., professor of Neuroscience at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

LIAF also honored Katinka House, Southold Town Adult Day Program; The Community Programs Center of Long Island/Day Haven Adult Day Services and Nesconset Nursing Center, Special Care Unit for their specialized Alzheimer's programs.
