Next week, April 18 - 24 is National Library Week, a time to rediscover all that libraries, librarians and library workers have to offer and why there's something for everyone at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library.

Steel is complete for the lecture/program facility on the east side of the library.

"Libraries provide a world of opportunity for all people, regardless of your age, income or background," said Rhoda Orenstein, director. "Whether you're checking out the latest bestseller, researching your college term paper, getting homework help or using the Internet, the library has the resources and staff to help you find what you are looking for."

The new Family Center on the west side of the library is fully enclosed and work is continuing inside.

This year, the POB Library joins the American Library Association and libraries across the country in encouraging our users to learn more about both new and traditional resources available. Make sure to stop at the Circulation Desk during National Library Week and pick up a little token of our appreciation.

Events for the week include a dramatic reading on Wed., April 21 at 7:30 p.m. of Snow in August, by Pete Hamill, the book being read and discussed in libraries all over Long Island. On Sat. evening, April 24, Opera Pro Voce will be appearing, tickets required. Children's programs including Pajama Storytime and afternoon crafts programs round out the week.

National Library Week 2004 marks the fourth year of The Campaign for America's Libraries, a multi-year public education campaign sponsored by the ALA and libraries across the country to speak loudly and clearly about the value of libraries and librarians in the 21st century.

"National Library Week is a great time to see what's new at the public library and how librarians and library workers can provide you with the resources and services you need when you need them," added Orenstein. "We encourage all of our community members to come check us out."

For more information, visit the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library at 999 Old Country Rd., Plainview, call 939-0077 or visit the library's Website at www.nassaulibrary.org/plainv. Libraries hours are Mon. - Fri., 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. and Sun. 1 p.m. 9 p.m.
