In celebration of "Women's History Month," the entire Plainview-Old Bethpage School District will be participating in trivia contests initiated by the district-wide Title IX Committee. These contests are modeled after a pilot program that was proposed and successfully implemented last year at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School.
The building representatives who comprise the committee, along with administrators and PTA parents separated into groups starting with kindergarten and continuing up through the grades, to tailor the questions and the operation to be specific to each age level. How the programs are administrated in each building may vary, however, the message is the same ... "Let's have fun celebrating significant women who have contributed to society."
Our district is unique in its commitment to gender equity through supporting a Standing Title IX co-Committee: The committee's ongoing mission is to develop, strengthen and raise awareness of gender equity through education, communications and athletics. This is accomplished by securing and distributing materials, monitoring issues within the school community and promoting celebration of women's achievements that foster the balance toward gender equity.
In closing, the committee would like to encourage participation from all of the children in this month-long celebration.
