The Plainview- Old Bethpage Athletic Booster Club hosted the annual Friday Night Madness at the high school and spirits roared as the POB Men's and Women's Hawks Varsity Basketball Teams gave an exhibition of skill and determination. Both teams soundly defeated their formidable opponents, the Hicksville men's team and the Baldwin's women's team.
The varsity cheerleaders and the 26 members of the POB kick line added to the evening's fun. Both varsity squads put on fantastic half time shows.
Between the games the POB Athletic Department conducted the Free Throw Shooting Contest Finals. Grades 4-8 participated from the elementary schools as well as POB Middle and Mattlin. The children had a chance to shine and show their stuff to a gym filled with parents and friends. All contestants received a T-shirt and the competition culminated with winners receiving an official basketball. There was a sense of cooperation and teamwork throughout the evening as the POB JV Men's Basketball Team helped keep score and rebound for the children.
POB Athletic Booster Club supplied refreshments and raised funds to continue providing evenings like this. Parents, whose children are in a variety of sports, volunteered their time to sell apparel and raffles as well as hundreds of hot dogs. The 50/50 Raffle was won by Joe Green who graciously donated his portion back to the Booster Club Fund.
The evening ended with the infamous Half Court Shot. Hundreds of people lined the court while 40 participants tried their hand at sinking the basket from half court. It ended with a shoot out contest between Brian Sosa and Preston Danow both known for their skills on the Soccer field. The winner, Preston Danow won tickets to the Islander's game and free parking.
Look for other Booster Club events coming this spring and plan on joining the students and community for local, inexpensive and exciting fun.
