Once again the Plainview Turkey Drive, sponsored by the Plainview-Old Bethpage Lions Club enabled many local needy families to receive a Thanksgiving dinner.

When Eric Kelly heard that the previous high school volunteers had graduated, he stepped in to help. Kelly, a sophomore at Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School, organized a group of his fellow classmates to assist the Lions Club.

Greenfield's Shoprite offers a free turkey to qualifying shoppers. The boys approached shoppers and convinced them to donate their free turkey. The energetic 10th graders worked together collecting and loading the frozen turkeys into storage freezers. When the boys weren't working, they were busy eating food generously provided by nearby merchants including Dunkin' Donuts, Gold & Meyer's and Teresa's.

The tremendous success of this annual food drive is the result of an entire community working together. Thanks to the Lions Club for their endless charitable work and to everyone who participated and contributed this year.
